Higham emphasizes the importance of spontaneous creation, having not used preparatory sketches. The precise, geometric forms that emerged during the painting process, some reminiscent of “eccentric, concentric forms” by Kandinsky, were used to create a sense of depth and movement within the picture plane. He describes this movement as “airy” and “statical,” distinct from the sense of flight evoked in a previous work.

 

Higham betont die Bedeutung der spontanen Kreation, da er keine vorbereitenden Skizzen verwendet hat. Die präzisen, geometrischen Formen, die während des Malprozesses entstanden sind und teilweise an “exzentrische, konzentrische Formen” von Kandinsky erinnern, wurden verwendet, um ein Gefühl von Tiefe und Bewegung innerhalb der Bildfläche zu erzeugen. Crystal Shape is an abstract acrylic painting on canvas characterized by a dynamic interplay of geometric shapes and contrasting colors. The artist, Robert Higham, describes the creative process as one of improvisation and discovery. He employed sharp diagonals, contrasting small and large shapes, and layered white acrylic with soft pastels.
